What is eduroam?
eduroam(education roaming) is the secure, world-wide roaming access service developed for the international research and education community.
eduroamallows students, researchers and staff from participating institutions to obtain Internet connectivity from universities, research centres, academies, schools, and other research and education institutions (and even some coffee shops!) by simply opening their device.
Is it safe?
eduroamis based on the most secure encryption and authentication standards in existence today. Its security by far exceeds typical commercial hotspots.
User credentials are kept secure because eduroam does not share them with the site you’re visiting. Instead they are forwarded to the user’s home institution, where they can be verified and validated.
Is it free?
Thanks to global agreement, the eduroam Wi-Fi roaming service is free of charge to users.
Who can use it?
Students, faculty, researchers and staff who have PRIME Accounts.
Where can I use eduroam?
Whether you’re moving across campus or spending time studying or working at another research and education institution, eduroam gives you seamless Internet connectivity.
More than 10,000 eduroamhotspots are available at universities, research centres, academies, schools, and other research and education institutions in more than 90 territories around the world. As eduroamgrows, more and more hotspots are appearing in additional places such as libraries, museums and public spaces such as railway stations and coffee shops.
In the Philippines, DOST ASTI, as the main identity provider in the country, is the first institution to deploy the service. Our team from PCARI-PRIME Project is also working with 12 other state universities across the Philippines in deploying their own eduroamservice.
